Why

Creativity Boosts Life

Creativity Boosts Life

Why

To put it short: I believe in the power of creativity. Being creative is essential to develop new ideas, fresh approaches, innovative strategies or change. To bring life forward and make the world a better place for all of us.

Design and creativity are synonymous in a way. Design is our best chance to shape the world we want. Wether you’re talking designing stuff, spaces, processes or organizations: at the end of the day, one way or another, all roads lead to design. I like to walk them.

How

The fifth corner of a square

The fifth corner of a square

How

I like fresh approaches to the matter. It is my strong belief that an answer to a question is hidden in the question itself. It just takes the courage to listen beyond pre assumptions. Or, as Paul Arden once said: ‘If you can’t solve a problem, it’s because you playing it by the rules’.

That’s why we need the power of a network. We all don’t think of the things we don’t know. So multi disciplinary approaches enrich by nature. Cooperation is essential to create new ideas, unthought connections and fresh solutions. That often are as obvious as a fifth corner in an empty square. It was there all the time, just waiting to be discovered.

What

Creative guide

Creative guide

What

I consider myself a guide, rather than a solitary authoritarian designer living on a cloud telling you what to do. I like to walk together, with you cherry picking from the stuff I gathered in my backpack. Need me to take care of the whole design package? Or just to inspire your own design team? All’s fine with me - as long as I can add value.

I don’t employ people, as that will reduce my ability to move fast and to put you on the first place. Instead, if needed, I build a network depending on the destination of the trip.

So, what have I done lately? I am involved in creative management, design consultancy, brand design management and development, architecture, interior design, product development, marketing strategy, books, cool concepts and more. Check some work below if you like.

Biblio Tøyen

A fascinating youth library

Biblio Tøyen

A fascinating youth library

Situation
Tøyen Youth Library is a new library for Tøyen, for Oslo and even for Norway, as it only addresses kids in the age from 10 to 15. It is located at Tøyen Square, a place in ‘Gamle Oslo’ that is being upgraded, to compensate the removal of the Munch Museum from the quarter.

Target
Create an a-typical cultural house, a third place, that reflects Deichman’s motto: Hold Deg Våken! Enrich kids by inspiring them. Make the hottest spot in town for gathering, working, meeting. Only for kids, 10 to 15 years old.

Action
Use psychology to understand what’s needed for the target group. Connect with the growing brain, that sometimes looses connection with reality, finds new ways and is always looking for clues. Multiply creativity by hiring a crew of very skilled set-builders to create a stunning environment.

Result
Probably the most fascinating library you will find. Anywhere.

Deichman Tøyen Library

A third place for all

Deichman Tøyen Library

A third place for all

Situation
Tøyen Existing Library is about to implement Meråpent, allowing patrons to use the library throughout the day even without staff present. At the same time, the Tøyen Torg and the building itself are upgraded, while the basement of the library is increased to add more space.

Target
Create a house that reflects Deichman’s motto: Hold Deg Våken! It is its aim to enrich people by inspiring them. Make it a ‘want to visit’ destination that can compete with all the cool spots that are emerging all over the place in this rapidly changing neighborhood.

Action
Rethink the way the books are stored and make room for people. Find places for gathering, gaming and meeting. Put people first to create a different presence at Tøyen Torg. Use warm colors and interesting props to create a homy environment, and use reclaimed materials to show you don’t need to buy new to create something new.

Result
A third place for all. A home way from home that invites to stay just a bit longer, to meet people and to enjoy small plays, music acts and performances.

Furuset House

Cultural Hotspot in Oslo suburb

Furuset House

Cultural Hotspot in Oslo suburb

Situation
The old Furuset Branch library is to be remodelled as the Furuset House. This is where the Youth Club, all sorts of social events, dance lessons, knitting courses, the textile workshop and library patrons will meet. Along with that, the house will implement Deichman’s Meråpent, allowing patrons to use the library throughout the day even without staff present.

Target
Create a house that reflects the broad Furuset’s social environment and where people feel at home, regardless their background and social status. Implement Deichman’s motto: Hold Deg Våken! It is its aim to enrich people by inspiring them.

Action
Make room for meeting, gathering, gaming and events. Create an open living room atmosphere, a new ‘library’ typology. Use warm colors and interesting props to create an environment that makes you feel at home, and make it a place to remember.

Result
Someting different. A library that takes leave of the classic white walled environment, and entices to be enjoyed longer than planned. A home way from home that invites to stay, to meet people and to enjoy.

As you don’t think of the things you don’t know, one needs to connect with others to grow. And if you know your partners, you don’t waste time looking. Quick Library Makeover

The easy way to transform your library without the hassle of a long lasting design process.

For whom?
The Quick Library Make Over is a design workshop for libraries that want to change their interior.

Due to RFID implementation, a shift to other service concepts, the search for a new collection segmentation or simply because they want to change the way they look.

Just how fast is quick?
Well, pretty fast actually. The average Quick Library Make Over lasts max a week. From start to finish that is. Many times it’s even faster: about two days.

How does it work?
I come to your place, and we’ll have workshops to discuss ideas. As I stay around and work through the night, the raw version of is presented just the other day.

What do I get?
A design, tailor made, an A3 book of ideas and solutions. Such as floor plans, ideas, capacity calculations, sketches and reference images, furniture proposals, color schemes and more.

What can I do with that?
This design enables you to brief suppliers to change your library for you. Usually, that will do the job. Sometimes you might consider adding project management or a tender process.

What does it cost?
That depends on your demands, the size and location of your library and the complexity of the job, and starts with 2.000 euro’s all-in ex VAT. Just ask for your price.

Who has done this before?
Well, quite some libraries have. I’ve been doing Make Overs in the Netherlands for over two decades, and in Belgium and the UK since 2008. Recently, I started in Norway.

How does it work?
At first your brand mentality is determined Which, in turn, determines its visual identity. Those two should be the mother of all brand design carriers. Just that, is what is being checked.

What do I get?
An easy to understand report that shows exactly where your brand is visual preforming well, and which items needs some work. Thorough in depth analyses help to understand.

What can I do with that?
Adjust en improve your brand, and make it more consistent. You now know the exact location of inconsistencies and the risk they pose to your brand.

What does it cost?
That depends on your demands, the number of design carriers and how well your brand has been defined, and starts with 3.000 euro’s all-in ex VAT. Just ask for your price.

Who has done this before?
Ask me for stories of enthusiastic launching customers. Due to the nature of the check, most clients kindly ask their checks not to be published online.

Although every project is special, some become more special than others. It is with great pride in our clients, who made our work possible, that we present some of the awards we've received throughout the years.
